Beaufort, North Carolina, USA.
Traditional English-style oak frame construction was at the heart of this creekside home. Finding naturally bent trees in North Carolina was a bit tricky, but a visit to the forest with the sawyer yielded what we needed. In fact, often when land is ‘clear-cut’, when the trees are harvested, the bent ones are left standing because they don’t stack too well on the log truck. Using the rejects; all the more reason to build rekindle use of this ancient and evocative truss.
